Benjamin Mendes Júnior studied at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), where he graduated in Electronics in 1995. He obtained his Master’s Degree at the same university in 2003. During his academic years he was a co-founder of SAPO.PT, Portugal’s larger and most sucessful web portal, now part of Portugal Telecom. He has been the head of SAPO/Portugal Telecom’s Multiplatform Unit – including commercial services on mobile and IPTV segments.
For the past 15 years Benjamin has been the tech lead in several SAPO projects with varied skills and expertise.
Had intensive courses on entrepreneurship and managing startups. Loves Technology, Internet, Communications, Messaging, Online Communities, Free Information Access and Free Software Models.
Strong Unix background and comfortable with most backend web technologies, emphasis on Open source. Manager. Leads medium sized teams, keeping them up with challenges, motivation and innovation. Project management. Deals with financial and business strategy.
Currently Head of R&D department at SAPO / Portugal Telecom. Professor at University of Aveiro. Founder and Managing Partner of obvious magazine.
